One of our favorite ministry spots in the summer is the New England Seafarers Mission in Boston, MA.  We send teams of around 10 people for the day to help with whatever they need help with.

Our most recent trip turned into a VERY BUSY day.  So we got right to work.  Taking and counting money from their paychecks…

…and then sending money to family across the world.  For many seafarers the Mission in Boston is one of the only places they can do this without getting taken advantage of.  This ministry provides a fair service to the men and women on cruise ships and other vessels who otherwise would be charged ridiculous fees to get money back into the hands of their loved ones.  In addition to wiring money, they can also call home by purchasing calling cards.  Providing that vital connection not available for them for weeks to months at a time.  Then there is the store…

Everything purchased by the crew on the ship is the same cost a passenger would have to pay.  Let’s just say it isn’t cheap.  As a service to the workers a small store with everything from food items, to laundry detergent, to socks is available at normal pricing.  Our volunteers worked on stocking the shelves…

…and working the cash register.  It was a great day.  Thanks to the team who participated this trip and to the Director of the NESFM, Steve Cushing who is always so fun to work for!  Want to go with us next time?  Send an email to evergreencov@live.com.  We would love to have you join the team!
